Alvina E. Bullen

After a long and fulfilled life, Alvina E. Bullen, age 93, of Middletown, DE, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 15, 2013.
Born in Wilmington on September 13, 1919, Alvina was the daughter of the late Mary Potts Sonchen and Alfred Sonchen, Sr. She was a homemaker and an avid bowler who divided her time between Prices Corner Friday Night League with her husband and also a weekday morning league at Pleasant Hills with her sister, Carolyn Deshong.
In addition to her parents, Alvina was preceded in death by her husband William P. “Jim” Bullen, and siblings, Alfred Sonchen, Jr., Leonard Sonchen, and Carolyn (Sonchen) Deshong.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, James W. Bullen and his wife Jane, and Bruce A. Bullen and his wife Cindy; her grandchildren, Jim Bullen, Melanie Detwiller, Amy Bullen, Michael Bullen, and Jason Bullen; and her great grandchildren, Amanda and Christopher Bullen, Robert and Adam Detwiller, Emma Bullen O’Hearn, Isabella Grace Bullen, and Kaylyn and Faith Lynn Bullen.
The family wishes to thank Will and Betty Battaglia and their staff at Caraway Manor Assisted Living and the staff of Amedysis Hospice for their excellent care of Alvina.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 22nd, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Eastern Shore Animal League, Inc. (SPCA), P.O. Box 665, Chesapeake City, MD 21915 to honor Alvina’s love for animals.
