Anne Carey Helm, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Scranton, PA on March 5, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Aloysious Walter and Arlene Marie (Kelly) Carey. Anne dedicated her career as an administrative assistant with Delcastle High School and retired after many years of service.

A devout Catholic, she was a member of Holy Family R.C. Church and was strong in her faith. Anne was an exceptional cook who enjoyed family gatherings and planning parties. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading. Anne will always be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, who dearly loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Helm, Jr.; son, Patrick W. Helm; and sister, Mary “Stoogie” Ethridge. Anne is survived by her children, Elizabeth A. “Betsy” Helm, Jonathan K. Helm (Molly), Matthew C. Helm (Kimberly) and Nathaniel C. Helm (Jennifer); and six grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Holy family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Rd, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anne’s memory to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Heartland Hospice, 256 Chapman Road, The Oxford Building Suite 102, Newark, DE 19702.

  • Anne was a wonderful person and colleague. We worked together for many years at Delcastle High School. She was one of the first people I would see when I arrived at work. She had a warm smile, a sense of humor and always brighten my day.

  • I have known Anne for 54 years … she lived across the street from my Sister … we had a lot of great times with her family. She will be dearly missed … I can especially speak for my Sister, Evalyn. they raised their families together and the memories are going to be cherished forever and a day.

    My “late” husband, Harry used to enjoy talking with Anne. He passed away in 2014 and I am remarried to a great person. I only wish Anne would have met Mike …
