Mrs. Anne M. Carroll Figgs, age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2011, at Somerford Place of Newark.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on New Years Day, 1930, Mrs. Figgs was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Mary Jewel Carroll. She was a lifelong Delaware resident and made her career as a payroll clerk with C. Paul Nickle Inc., retiring after many years of dedicated service.
Mrs. Figgs was a devout Catholic throughout her life and was a longtime member of Holy Family R.C. Church. Never one to shy away from a challenge, one of her proudest achievements was earning her driver’s license at age 59. Mrs. Figgs enjoyed tending her garden in her leisure hours. Above all else, she was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. One of Mrs. Figgs greatest pleasures was preparing Sunday dinners for her family, which was a weekly tradition.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Christopher C. Figgs; and her siblings, sisters, Mary Kavanagh, Alice Kavanagh, and Jane Boulden; and a brother, William Carroll. She is survived by her loving family; sons, Christopher Figgs, and wife, Kathleen of North East, MD, Mark Figgs, and wife, Melanie, of Newark, Matthew Figgs, and wife, Karen, of New Castle, Alvin Martin Figgs, and fiancée, Alice McKelvey, of Newark, and Thomas Figgs, and wife, Kimberly, of Newark; daughter, Carol Runkle, and husband, Richard Jr., of Newark; brother, Thomas Carroll, Jr. of Bear; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:30 pm on Friday, September, 23, 2011 at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE, where friends and family may call from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Mrs. Figgs name be made to Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713.
