Anneliese M. Willen

October 13, 1934 - May 21, 2021

Anneliese M. Willen, age 86, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at 6:50 am on Friday, May 21, 2021, with her loving husband by her side.

Anneliese was born in Kassel, Germany, on October 13, 1934. She was 11 years old when World War II ended, and grew up in war-torn Germany. Because of that experience, she never took anything in life for granted. Anneliese met and fell in love with an American soldier, Ardean Willen, in 1956. Three years later, she followed him to the U.S.A. where they married on June 29, 1959. Anneliese and Ardean had a love that only happens once in a lifetime. Anneliese had a 15-year career at Kaumagraph Printing Co. in Wilmington, DE. She rose through the ranks to become the first female manager on the factory floor. After 15 years of marriage, she thought she had caught the flu, but was pregnant with her only child, Angeline, at the age of 39 after years of trying. Anneliese was the best mother a girl could ever have. She taught Angeline how to be fearless, strong, and compassionate. Anneliese, Ardean, and Angeline, were as close as any family could be; they were always there for each other. Anneliese loved her family fiercely, including her son-in-law, Joe, and all of her many grand fur babies. She treasured time spent with her family and enjoyed flower gardening, baking cookies, and taking long car rides with her husband.

Anneliese is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Ardean Willen; daughter, Angeline Rivello (Joseph); granddog, Cooper Rivello; and a loving extended family in Tennessee.

All services will be held privately. Interment will be held in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anneliese’s memory to support the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study by clicking here.
