Barbara A. Mooney

Born May 11, 1938

Barbara V. Mooney, age 76, died on February 23, 2015 after a courageous six year fight with Multiple Myeloma.

Barbara was born on May 11, 1938 in Brooklyn, N. Y. She was predeceased by her parents Mildred and Ignatius Budziloski. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell High School before marrying John J. Mooney Jr. on June 29, 1957. She was preceded in death by “Jack” after 52 years of marriage. She and Jack enjoyed retirement in Bethany Beach since 1992. Prior to that, they raised their family in Newark, DE and were active participants in their children’s activities at Arbour Park, Persimmon Creek Swim Club and in many baseball leagues. Barbara was a life-long member of the Jr. Board of St. Francis Hospital, a member of the Parish of St. Ann Church in Bethany Beach and a member of the South Bethany Beach Women’s Club.

Barbara is survived by her four children: John J. Mooney III and his wife, Tyann of Hanover, PA; Nicholas F. Mooney and his wife, Beverly of Tampa, Florida; Suzanne V. Mooney Halter of Newark, DE and Michael J. Mooney and his wife, Robyn, of Wilmington, DE. Bobbie will also be missed by her grandchildren, John IV, Meghan, Donika, Dustin, Logan, Paige, Shaun, Kellan, Kory and Aimee and by her great grandchildren, Dylan, Tripp and Chase. She is also survived by her two sisters, Theresa Allen and her husband, Ethan of O’Fallon, MO and Linda Kropp and her husband, Jim of Raleigh, NC and a sister-in-law, Maria Johansen and her husband, Bob of Bethany Beach, DE and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE, where family and friends are welcome for a visitation from 10 am until 12 Noon. Burial will be private.

The family suggests that donations be made to the Beebe Tunnel Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Highway, Rehoboth DE 19971, for the great care shown to Barbara by the nurses and to benefit cancer research.
