Barbara Ann (Barnak) Hanczyc
April 27, 1942 - April 12, 2025
Barbara Ann (Barnak) Hanczyc, age 82, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Known for her kind hearted spirit and boundless optimism, Barbara lived a life that prioritized love, laughter, and family.
Born in Dupont, PA on April 27, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Stanley J. and Cassandra (Palenski) Barnak. Barbara was a graduate of St. John’s High School in Pittston, PA.
In 1963 she married Thomas Hanczyc and began their marriage of over 61 years. They made their home in Suscon, PA, where they raised their three children. Barbara was passionate about education for her children and herself. She started her collegiate studies as her children were doing the same. She earned her degree in Computer Science from Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
In Pennsylvania, Barbara worked in various professions at Prudential Insurance, J&L Manufacturing and Nabisco. She put her computer science degree to work at Alltell before moving to Delaware, where she finished her career as a computer analyst at Accenture.
Barbara was known for her friendly smile and positive attitude. To say she never met a stranger is no exaggeration—she could strike up a conversation with anyone, and make them feel like they had known her forever. Barbara was always curious and eager to experience something new whether it was yoga, swimming or traveling. However, her family was her greatest joy, and she never missed a chance to celebrate their milestones or offer her loving support.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas Mark Hanczyc; children, Eric Hanczyc (Melinda), Carol Tran (Peter) and Diane Marsh (Michael); grandchildren, Alec Tran, Elan Tran, Aidan Tran, Ana Marsh, Leah Marsh, Nathan Marsh, Zachary Hanczyc and Nicholas Hanczyc; siblings, Marian Chlipala (Mark) and Stanley Barnak (Mary Ann); and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or online by clicking here.
