Barbara L. Saunders

Barbara L. Saunders, age 88, of New Castle, DE, returned to the Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on October 22, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Arthur M. Sr. and Carolyn G. (Harrison) Bennett. After finishing her schooling, Barbara began her professional career at The Delaware Dry Goods where she met her husband of 41 years John. She eventually left full time employment to be a stay-at-home mother to care for her family. Later, Barbara returned to the work force as a seamstress with the Schroeder China Doll Co. of Newark, DE. She rounded out her working years and ultimately retired from CitiBank on Commons Boulevard as a payment processor.
Devoted to her faith, Barbara was a proud member of Christiana Presbyterian Church for her entire adult life. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and reading in her spare time. Barbara was very talented at handicrafts including sewing, crocheting, knitting, and alterations. She was well known for making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. Barbara took great pleasure from visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great grand kids.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Saunders, Jr.; and siblings, Arthur Bennett, Jr. and Della Smith. She is survived by her children, John R. Saunders III (Pamela C.) and Deborah J. DeLia (Christopher M.); her sister, Mary Taylor; grandchildren, Robert L. Adams III, Andrea F. Weidman, Brandon M. DeLia, and Aidan C. DeLia; and great-grandchildren, Nola Ratledge, Sonny Adams, Savannah Adams, Trevor Adams, Ainsley Weidman, Carver Weidman, and Riley Adams.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 am until 1 pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
The family will gladly accept flowers, or contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to Christiana Presbyterian Church, 15 North Old Baltimore Pike, Christiana, DE 19702.

I will never forget Barbara as my Sunday School Teacher. She was a very caring and kind person. I have a set of her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. She was such a talented seamstress and crafter. Blessings to her family that loved her very much
