          Bernice B. Sayne, age 78, of Bear, DE, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020.

          Born in Detroit, MI on July 7, 1941, she was a daughter of the late John and Julia Barron.  Bernice worked for Christina School District in the cafeteria at Glasgow High School and retired after 30 dedicated years.

          A love of gardening, Bernice took pride in her flowers.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed shopping.  Bernice’s fondest memories were made during time spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Charlene “Cissy” Sayne; and siblings, Henry Barron, Ray Barron and Beatrice Walstrom.  Bernice is survived by her husband, Lee Sayne; children, Stacey Dougherty (George) of Newark, DE and Robert Sayne of Edgewood, MD; brother, Donald Barron of St. Clair Shores, MI; and grandchildren, George Dougherty (Ashleigh) of Elkton, MD, Katie Dougherty of Newark and Brittany Dougherty of Newark.

          A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am.  Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

          In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bernice’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • We’re so sorry for your loss.. Aunt Bernice was a beautiful ,special and loving lady. In all my years ,I’ve never heard my Aunt raise her voice.. She was always a kind and generous person and I loved talking to her about everything.. She also loves Unconditionally, I will miss her and our conversations we had. R.I.P.   • Dear Lee, Stacey, Rob and family-I’m soo sorry about your loved one. I hope Bernice finds comfort in Heaven with those who have passed into Gods kingdom before her. I will always remember all the fun times all of us ‘kids ‘ had fun playing in Summit Bridge and then your ‘big house’! I’ll always remember her at GHS when she would offer me a ‘special teachers’ lunch! It was really just a big salad! But I loved it! May your sad days be replaced with those of happiness, joy and laughter! ❤️
