Mrs. Blanche Mildred Carter, known fondly as “Millie,” age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013.
Born in Clifton Heights, PA, on December 1, 1933, Mrs. Carter was the daughter of the late Edith Mae Baker Berridge and William Russell Berridge. She made her career with the Ridley (PA) School District, retiring as a cafeteria manager after 25 years of service.
Mrs. Carter was an active member of the Newark and Middletown Senior Centers, where she greatly enjoyed taking exercise classes, playing bingo, and sharing coffee with her many good girlfriends. Admired throughout her life for her sweet, gracious, and loving nature, she delighted in spending time with her beloved family, especially her precious grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, John R. Carter; son, John G. Carter of Tampa, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Karen S. Carter and Scott Edmonds of Old Greenwich, CT; sister, Doris Gabe of Wallingford, PA; brothers, LeRoy Berridge of Jarrettsville, MD and Raymond Berridge of North Carolina; and grandchildren, Chase Carter, Alex Carter, Adam Carter, Paige and Brett Edmonds.
A funeral service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 5 pm. Interment will be held privately.
