Captain Ramon E. Dave Davidson, age 80, of Newark, DE, died on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at his home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Capt. Davidson was born in Oilton, OK, on May 20, 1930, son of the late Sherman G. Davidson and Gladys Gravitt Davidson. An accomplished and dedicated aircraft pilot throughout his life, he began his career crop dusting at age 13, in Artesia, NM. At age 15, he joined the US Air Force and expertly flew the famed F-86 Sabrejet among others. He later piloted for commercial airlines and private corporations and was a personal pilot for several years for Dr. Jerry Falwell. Most recently, Capt. Davidson shared his vast experience and knowledge as a Flight Instructor / Director of Standards / Examiner for student and recurrent pilots. He is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Maryann Toscano Davidson; children, Leonard Davidson (Tammi) of Forest, VA; Bret Davidson (Colette) of Castle Rock, CO; Sharon Kawasaki (Lester) of Longmont, CO; Donna Spezzaferra (Anthony) of Maywood, NJ; and Lauren Barbosa (Paul) of Pompton Plains, NJ; sisters, Ramona Merryweather of Tacoma, WA; Lahvie Walker (Larry Paul) of Sedalia, MO; and Rahma Lee Critser of Fort Wayne, IN; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. The family extends sincere gratitude and love to the staff of the Helen Graham Cancer Center, Dr. Andrew Himelstein, and Compassionate Care Hospice for their compassion, warmth, sincerity, and extraordinary care. We also thank Dr. David Grubbs and Dr. David Estock for their friendship, care, and unparalleled skill. A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1842 Otts Chapel Road, Newark, DE, 19702, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Captain Davidson may be made to the Lighthouse Baptist Church Building Fund at the address above.
