Carol L. Johnson
Mrs. Carol L. Johnson, age 66, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012.
Active in the Delaware fire service community throughout her life, Carol was a Life Member of the Minquadale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. During her 50 years of membership, she served as auxiliary president, was named “Member of the Year,” and held many other offices. She was also a past president of the New Castle County Ladies Auxiliary and chaired many committees for the State of Delaware Ladies Auxiliary. Other civic involvement included working with the Board of Elections for many years.
Carol was born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 17, 1945. A gifted homemaker and loving wife and mother, she devoted her life to caring for her beloved family. She especially delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored, and looked forward each year to planning large and joyous family Christmas celebrations.
In her leisure hours, Carol greatly enjoyed baking, vacationing at her beach home, and cheering for her favorite NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert N. “The Crab Man” Johnson, Sr., and by her father, Percy Houck. She is survived by her children, Robert N. Johnson, Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Wilmington, Ronald W. Johnson and wife, Eileen, of Newark, and Donna L. Mahoney and husband, John, of Wilmington; her mother, Virginia Houck; brothers, Paul “Buzzy” Houck and wife, Patty, of Rehoboth, Larry Houck and wife, Michelle, of Bear, and Jimmy Houck of WV; sister, Janet Houck of New Castle; grandchildren, Haley, Kelly, Allison, Dallas, Brendan, and Ryan; and great grandchild, Jaiden.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the nurses at Christiana Hospital, to the staff of the Helen Graham Cancer Center including Dr. Misleh, and to Dr. Papa for their many kindnesses to Carol during her illness.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
