Carolyn V. Edwards

Mrs. Carolyn Von Stetten Edwards, age 89, of the Millcroft Retirement Community in Newark, DE, died on Friday, April 2, 2010 surrounded by her loving family.

Carolyn was born in Columbia, PA, on July 17, 1920, daughter of the late Warren Von Stetten and Catherine Reisinger Von Stetten. Formerly of Lancaster, PA, she resided in Newark for the past forty-three years after moving from West Chester, PA.

A 1938 graduate of Columbia High School, Carolyn would go on to attend Millersville University. She worked in secretarial positions for Henry Bruner, Esq. in Columbia; for Russell Jacoby, tax solicitor of West Chester; and for the vice-principal of what was then West Chester High School.

Active in her community, Carolyn was a member of the Century Club of West Chester, the DuPont Country Club, the Christian Womens Club, and St. Marks United Methodist Church in Stanton, DE. She also served as a Bible Studies hostess for 32 years with Stonecroft Ministries.

Her beloved husband of 63 years, retired DuPont engineer Lewis William Edwards, died in 2004. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Warren and Glenn Von Stetten. She is survived by her daughters, Carole Edwards Evans (Robert) of Newark; and Christine Edwards Altizer (James) of Watkinsville, GA; granddaughter, Dr. Sonia Altizer (Andrew Davis) of Hull, GA; grandson, James C. Altizer (Karen) of Wake Forest, NC; great grandsons, Brandon and Matthew Altizer; brother, Wayne Von Stetten (Margaret) of Willow Street, PA; and sister-in-law, Freda Von Stetten. She was also an important part of the lives of many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of fellowship and remembrance for residents and friends will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Millcroft Retirement Residence Main Lounge, 255 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE. A family memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Columbia Presbyterian Church, 360 Locust Street, Columbia, PA. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Lancaster, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Columbia Presbyterian Church, 360 Locust Street, Columbia, PA 17512; or to St. Marks United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19804.
