Charles E. Heckrotte, Sr.

July 11, 1927 - April 15, 2022

Charles E. Heckrotte, Sr., age 94, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 15, 2022.

Born in Baltimore, MD on July 11, 1927, he was a son of the late Walter B. and Celeste (Cogly) Heckrotte.  Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Vickesburg CL-86.  Active in his community, he was lifetime members of Holloway Terrace Fire Company, American Legion Joseph B. Stahl Post 30, and Police, Fire, Rod and Gun Club.  He worked as a mechanic for Modern Handling Equipment for 20 years and retired in 1988.  Charles was a member of St. Anthony’s Club where he played bocce ball and also played shuffleboard and pool at St. Gabes.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Edna S. (Barnhart) Heckrotte; and siblings, Edward C. Heckrotte, Joseph Heckrotte, and Florence Klatt. He is survived by his children, Peggy Scarpitti, and Charles E. Heckrotte, Jr. (Barbara); siblings, John Heckrotte and Celeste E. Heckrotte; grandson, Charles Mistretta; and great-grandson, Logan Mistretta.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North Dupont Parkway, New Castle, Delaware. Services and interment will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles’ name to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE.
