Christopher “Chris” Eugene Bonk

March 29, 1988 - September 15, 2022

Christopher “Chris” Eugene Bonk, age 34, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Newark, DE on March 29, 1988, he was a son of Eugene Theodore Bonk and Linda Denise (Barnes) Hall. Chris graduated from Hodgson Vocational Technical High School. Following graduation, he worked in his technical trade masonry before working at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Chris ended his career at ATI Physical Therapy.

 Chris was an avid sports fan with a lifelong passion for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Phillies. He enjoyed playing trivia, listening to all genres of music and volunteering at special events. Chris cherished spending time with his family and friends and especially Sundays spent at Grotto’s watching football.

In addition to his parents, Chris is survived by his step-mother, Barbara Bonk; his mother’s significant other, William Nottingham; brother, Zachary Bonk (Kelly Ann); his fluffy nephew, Coors (Cujo); maternal grandfather, James M. Barnes III; step-brother, Dustin Austin (Gessi); step-sister, Alexa Austin; step-grandmother, Marie Evans; aunts, Audrey O’Neill (John), and Sue Stiles; uncle, James M. Barnes IV (Mirna); maternal grandmother, Margaret Simmons (Mike); and other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including the Salem Woods crew.

The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the staff at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for their tireless compassion and dedication towards Chris during his difficult journey.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A second visitation will be held from 9 am until 10:30 am on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the funeral home, where a funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn Road, Port Penn, DE.

  • So sorry for the loss of Chris. I worked with him at Thermo Fisher while he was there and he always had a smile from ear to ear on his face. Always pleasant to talk with and very friendly overall to all his fellow employees. I will keep you all in my prayers during this trying time.

  • I had the honor of caring for Chris while he was at HUP Silver 11/Silver 9. He was a pleasure to care for, and was always so sweet. If you walked into his room he always gave a smile (even when us night shifters had to wake him up). He will be missed deeply, but I will remember him for his strength and courage.
