Clementine “Teenie” Cael

Mrs. Clementine Theresa Billingsley Cael, age 79, of Wilmington, DE, died on Sunday, September 26, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Cael was born in Wilmington on November 11, 1930, daughter of the late John Wilson Billingsley and Margaret Ann Dorris. She attended St. Pauls Grade School and would go on to graduate from St. Peters High School in New Castle. She was employed with Eckerds at the Midway Shopping Center for many years until her retirement and was a longtime member of St. Matthews parish.

A gifted homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Cael greatly enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for her family and hosting celebrations and holiday gatherings. She also created lovely hand-crocheted blankets as gifts for many newborn babies.

Mrs. Cael looked forward to taking trips to the beach and going boating, as well as cheering for her two favorite football teams, Notre Dame and the University of Delaware, and her favorite baseball team, the Phillies. Well-known for her kind and compassionate nature, she took loving care of many family pets over the years. Most of all, she delighted in spending time with and caring for her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her husband of 62 years, John Mitchell Cael, Jr., died in July of this year. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Scholl, and siblings, Margaret Billingsley, Kathleen Manelski, and John Billingsley. She is survived by her children, Irene Copes (William), Joanne Scholl (Bob), Margaret Fiorelli (Lou), Linda Lackford (John), John Cael III (Kimberly), and Steven Cael (Drema); sister, Dorris Emerson; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and longtime family friend, Jean Celano.

Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, October 1, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at St. Matthews R.C. Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest, Wilmington. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Cael may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
