Cremation

Handled with love, care and integrity, a Spicer-Mullikin cremation may serve as a funeral or post-funeral tradition.

Spicer-Mullikin’s new on-site crematory offers families an opportunity to say goodbye to their loved ones in a manner similar to that of a funeral. Our retort located in our Middletown area offers families private cremation viewings from our adjoining side chapel. Many families wish to be present to say goodbye to their loved ones – just as one would at a cemetery.

Cremation is a cost effective alternate solution to the standard funeral service, allowing for unique conveniences and benefits.

Benefits of Cremation

Cremation is becoming a more viable option for many people, so whether you choose cremation in your pre-planning service, or family members are considering it for an immediate service, it’s important to know the benefits of cremation:

Affordability – Cremation costs less than a traditional burial service because there are typically no gravesite fees, caskets, cemetery fees, or headstones involved.

Environmentally friendly –  In a traditional burial (casket) there are chemicals in the embalming and burial process, which can find their way into the earth, causing damage to the environment. Additionally, caskets are usually made from wood, which is equivalent to about 4 million acres of forest per year.

Our onsite crematory – Spicer-Mullikin has an on-site crematory at our location in Middletown, allowing you and your family peace of mind through the entire cremation process.

Our onsite crematory chapel – Spicer-Mullikin has a beautiful on-site crematory chapel, allowing you and your family the option to say a private farewell to your loved one.

Ashes are portable – When people are buried in a casket, it cannot be moved without a significant cost. Cremated ashes, however, can be easily transported after someone dies, which is important if different family members and friends would like to have the ashes to honor the memory of their loved one.

Time efficient –  Cremations are always faster than traditional burials. These ceremonies do not require as much planning in the days immediately following the death when your family is still grieving and reacting to the news.

Saves space in cemeteries – Limited space exists in cemeteries, especially in urban sites. Do you want to be buried in an overcrowded cemetery and have your loved ones visit you there? Cremation doesn’t take up a lot of space

Allows for creative funeral ceremonies – If you or your loved ones don’t want to follow a traditional path after you die,  cremation enables ashes to be scattered or to have art or jewelry created from the ashes. This can be included when you pre-plan with us.

Ashes can be divided – If you have children who live in different parts of the country or the world, a traditional burial makes it difficult for loved ones to visit your grave. With cremation, ashes can be divided, enabling loved ones to share your remains.
