David Leon Heller
November 22, 1952 - June 30, 2024
David Leon Heller, age 71, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 30, 2024.
Born in Wilmington, DE on November 22, 1952, he was a son of the late Leon W. “Chick” and Mary Gertrude (McGrellis) Heller. David was a graduate of De La Warr High School. He always enjoyed working, especially in the automotive industry. For many years, David worked as an automobile wholesaler.
From a young age, David was passionate about the Catholic church, and enrolled himself in Catholic School. Wherever he lived, he attended the Catholic church in that area. Dave grew up loving the beach and passed that love on to his daughter, Ashley. He loved camping and surf fishing at the beach and made many cherished memories there with Ashley. Dave also loved his years of boating on the Susquehanna River. Dave’s love for music and joy riding in his car will always be remembered. He was a sociable person, who made friends everywhere he went. Dave had a spark for life and his light was still on all the way until the end. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his siblings, Roy W. Davis and Esther Quillen. He is survived by his children, Ashley Angeloni (Mike), Brian Heller, and Christy Francart (James); sisters, Carolyn Poswinski (Robert), Linda McKelvey, and Joan A. Heller; 5 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
David’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Martha Hosford and the staff at Christiana Care Hematology Oncology office, and the nurses and staff of Laurelwood Nursing Home, and Amedisys Hospice, who all became a special part of his family because of their exceptional care.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s memory to Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home to help offset funeral expenses. Please make checks payable to Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home and mail to 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720, or call (302) 328-2213.
