March 21, 1958 - October 21, 2022

David W. Downward, age 64, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, October 21, 2022.

Born in Wilmington, DE on March 21, 1958, he was the son of Barbara (Simpson) Downward and the late Stanford B. Downward, Sr. David worked in HVAC for Colonial School District for 30 years until his retirement.

David was a hard worker and was held in high esteem by his colleagues. He enjoyed home improvement activities around the house and DIY woodworking. He could usually be found at the campground on weekends surrounded by his beloved dogs Rosie, Gracie, and Lucy. After his retirement, he enjoyed cooking and baking, often trying new recipes. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, attending various events for his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Downward; and his sister-in-law, Colleen Downward. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Schulte Downward; mother, Barbara Downward of Middletown; brother, Stanford Downward Jr., also of Middletown; children, Jessica Crumbacker (Thomas), Stephen Downward (Brooke), Scott Kustosz, Kate Lott, and Maura Schultz; grandchildren, Benjamin, Delaney, Addison, Brennan, Maxwell, and Everly; and other family members, John Downward, Raymond Downward, Roberta Nickel, and Cheryl Sebright.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will be held at 12 pm. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
