David William Hammer

January 18, 1956 - April 18, 2025

David William Hammer, age 69, of Centreville, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 18, 2025.

Born in Chestertown, MD on January 18, 1956 he was a son of the late Bernard Lyle and Mildred Idena (Grussing) Hammer. Dave graduated from Queen Annes County High School in Centreville, MD in 1974. As a lifelong carpenter he worked most of his career at Church Hill Lumber Company before moving to Alton Darling, where he dedicated 20 years as a master carpenter. During those 20 years, he built some of the most beautiful homes across the eastern shore of Maryland.

Dave lived a life centered around his faith. Growing up he was a member of Our Mother’s of Sorrow Catholic Church before becoming a longtime member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Rock Hall, MD.

Dave’s love for helping others and teaching was extensive. You could always count on him to help out any friend or family member, it’s what made him truly happy. He also found enjoyment in various activities; from finding treasures at auctions, to crabbing, traveling and hunting. More than anything else, Dave cherished every moment spent with his family.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 14 years, Debbie L. Hammer. He is survived by his children, Janet Tucker (Mike) and Albert Coleman II (Kristyn); twin brother, Alan Hammer (Teresa); siblings, Mark Hammer (Typhne), Karen Dean (Mike), Beverly Brannock (Barry) and Mary Chansler; brother-in-law, David Kelley, Sr.; sister-in-law, Nancy Walls; grandchildren, Matt Tucker (Haylee), Spencer Coleman, Samanatha Kamm (Frank), Kimberly Coleman (Steve), Allie Tucker (Paige), Justin Peacock, Jimmy Peacock and Joey Peacock; great-grandchildren, Caiden Neff, Finn Tucker and Charlotte Tucker; along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 6065 Rock Hall Road, Rock Hall, Maryland, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Inurnment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to the American Cancer Society and designate to Merkel Cell Carcinoma Treatment at P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or online by clicking here.
