Mrs. Diane E. Kirchner, age 77, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Kirchner was born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 27, 1936, daughter of the late Russell Warren Evans and Helen Mae Calhoun Evans. A talented homemaker throughout her life, she was also employed as a secretary with the Loomis Appraisal Company in Newark for 11 years. Later, she accepted a part-time position with the former Happy Harry’s in Suburban Plaza.
Admired for her creativity and artistic talent, Mrs. Kirchner greatly enjoyed both stitchery and cake decorating for many years. She was also an avid reader.
A loving wife and wonderful mother who devoted her life to caring for her beloved family, she is survived by her husband, Charles Andrew Kirchner; sons, Roy A. Kirchner (Stephanie) of Bear, and Richard L. Kirchner (Alice) of Elkton, MD; sisters, Janice Hinkle of Brevard, NC, and Sandra Jamison (Jerry) of Newark; grandchildren, Desirae (Wilson), Amanda (Jeff), Marissa, Roy Jr., Miranda, Casandra, and David; and great grandchildren, Dylan, Riley, Lucas, and Ava.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, August 16th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Seasons Hospice–especially Paulette Johnson and Sandy Love–for their many kindnesses to Mrs. Kirchner during her illness.
