Don L. Longenecker
Mr. Don L. Longenecker, age 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Born in Verona, OH, near Dayton, on October 14, 1925, Don was the son of the late Mildred and Walter Longenecker. He proudly and bravely served his country as a US Navy pilot during World War II from 1943 to 1945. Following his honorable discharge, he would go on to earn his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Dayton in 1949 and his master’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1951. That same year, he joined the DuPont Company, where he enjoyed a long and rewarding career, retiring in 1985 as the Vice President of General Services.
Don was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington. In his leisure hours, he looked forward to playing golf with friends, fishing in Florida, and cheering for the University of Delaware Blue Hens. Most of all, he delighted in spending time with his beloved family, all of whom loved him deeply and will miss him greatly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 27 years, Doris L. Longenecker, three brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Vaughn Longenecker; his daughter, Ann Davis; his son-in-law, Michael Davis; and his grandchildren, Matthew and Kelsey.
At Don’s request, services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
