Donald B. "Don" Schaefer, Jr. - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Donald B. “Don” Schaefer, Jr.

Donald B. “Don” Schaefer, Jr., age 59, of Newark, DE, departed at his home on Friday morning, December 13, 2024.

He was a son of the late Don Schaefer, Sr. and Joanne Hamza.  He was a much loved husband, father, brother, uncle, and son-in-law who had a heart that was beyond amazing that the whole family will deeply miss.

He was a man of faith who deeply believed in the Catholic teachings and shared his faith by sending daily prayers to his family.

He was very devoted to his family and was extremely caring and giving and would do whatever he could to help and support.  He had an uncanny way of making others laugh even in the hardest of times, we could all really use that right now, even if it was a corny Dad joke.

Don’s journey through life was marked by an unwavering faith, love, and a deep commitment to his family.  He shared an extraordinary love story with his wife, Lisa, his high school sweetheart and soulmate.  In 1985, he joined his life with Lisa and together they embarked on a beautiful journey of love and devotion that lasted for 39 years.  Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unbreakable bonds.

Don is survived by his wife and soulmate, Lisa; his adored son, Nick; sister, Cammie (who he loved to tease and call Camille); his brother, Ron (who he called Bud), who in addition to being his big brother, was also a father figure.

His nieces and nephews who adoringly called him Uncky Don.

Nieces: Kayla (Silly Girl), Neveen (Little Lady), Kaylee (Noodle Bug), Savanna (Miss Pink). Nephews: Hunter, Ayden (Flex), and Cody (Coco Bean).

His mother-in-law, Sandy (who he considered his second Mom); brother-in-law, Yaser (who he considered a brother); sister-in-law, Alisha; nephew-in-law, Alex; and his dog, Nutty (who did drive him nuts).  His love and care for his family knew no bounds, and his legacy will live on in their hearts.

As we bid him farewell, we remember him as a loving and devoted husband and father, a family man, a faithful servant of the Lord, and a pillar of strength in our family.  His legacy will continue to inspire us all, reminding us of the importance of faith, love, and service to others.

In memory, we honor his life and the positive impact he had.  He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.  Rest in eternal peace, your spirit lives on in the hearts of those you touched.

Per his desires, there will not be a memorial service, but the family will have a Celebration of Life some time in the future.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s name to the Food Bank of Delaware, 222 Lake Drive, Newark, DE 19702 or by clicking here.  His family takes comfort in knowing that his generous spirit will continue to impact the lives of others.
