Doris Strohl

Doris Strohl, age 83, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

Born in Nesquehoning, PA, on November 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Bench and Anna Marchak Bench.

She was a dedicated employee at Astra Zeneca for many years, retiring in 1993.

Strong in her faith, Mrs. Strohl was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newark, DE, where she participated in many activities throughout the years, and was a member of the Caesar Rodney Chapter #8 Order of the Eastern Star in Newport.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing the penny slot machines and casino games on her computer, crocheting, and visiting the beach with her family and friends.  She was an avid NASCAR racing fan, with Jeff Gordon being her favorite, and was a huge fan of the New York Yankees. Doris will always be remembered by her girlfriends in up-state Pennsylvania for her gift of friendship and their many long talks.

In addition to her parents and nine siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert C. Strohl, Sr, a son-in-law, Jay Church and a granddaughter, Michelle Church.  Mrs. Strohl is survived by three children including, Herbert C. Strohl, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Middletown and Donna Church-Macheski (Robert) of Bear; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and her long-time companion, Joe Sockolosky of Lewes.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE, where friends may visit with Mrs. Strohl’s family from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, First State Chapter, 100 W. 10th St., Wilmington, DE 19801 or to the American Heart Association 200 Continental Drive, Ste. 101 Newark, DE 19713.
