Edmund “Ed” “Neb” Bush

November 20, 1929 - May 17, 2024

Edmund “Ed” “Neb” Bush, age 94, of Middletown, DE, passed away at the home of his only daughter, Charlotte Schoen and her husband, Jim, with whom he lived, on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on November 20, 1929, he was the youngest child of the late Harold and Jennie (Slider) Bush. Ed served in the Army and the Coast Guard, and while in the Coast Guard he proudly marched in the Inaugural Parade of President Harry Truman. He retired as a proud union carpenter.

Ed loved music and laughter. A lifelong lover of Barbershop Quartet music, he sang tenor in four Barbershop Quartets and in a group with his brothers called “The Bushmen”, he was always willing to share a song or a joke with whomever he met. Ed was a member of the Archer Epler VFW Post 979 Drum and Bugle Corp 1954 national champions. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. His memory will be cherished by many family and friends, his nieces and nephews will always hold a special place in their hearts for “the UNC”; his friends from MOT Senior Center:  Mike, Peaches and Kay; his close friend, Maryann; his friend Patti from Sweet Dream Candy Shop; the librarian from Appoquinimink Library; along with his friends Elena and staff at Elena’s Broad St. Florist and Gifts who know him as the “just one rose” man.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Charlotte; four brothers and four sisters, who jointly raised him after the death of his parents; and loving companion, Judy Wilbank. He is survived by his loving family: daughter, Charlotte (Jim) Schoen; grandchildren, Greg Schoen (Pam), Jeff Schoen (Michelle), and Lauren Wojciechowski (Frank); 6 great-grandchildren, Caleb and Sarah Schoen, Alex and Maddie Schoen, and Beth and Abby Wojciechowski.

The family would also like to thank Accent Hospice Care; especially social worker, Shane, Chaplain Kyle, music therapist, Emily; Doctor Trzepkowski, and his wonderful and devoted nurse, Amanda.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 319 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s name to Our Daily Bread, 214 N. Broad Street, Middletown, DE 19709, or to The Pine Barons Barbershop Chorus, P.O. Box 417, Moorestown, NJ 08057.

4 Condolences for Edmund “Ed” “Neb” Bush

  • We have been blessed for many years to have had “Pop,” a.ka. “Great Pop” in our lives. He was a loving, generous stand-up guy who always put his family first. Whether he was telling a clever joke, sharing an amusing anecdote, or just singing a barbershop tune, his presence always lit up a room. He was one of a kind; God truly broke the mould when He made him. “Pop,”/”Great Pop,” we will miss you more than our words can express, but we will cherish each other and continue to carry on your legacy. You will forever live in our hearts. “So long” for now…until we meet again.
Love, Jeff, Michelle, Alex & Maddie

  • Uncle Neb, We will forever remember the visits we had with you and Aunt Char in Florida. Our family loved your singing when you visited many years ago. I will especially remember you taking me to my first Phillies game at Connie Mack stadium and you catching a fly ball in the stands. What wonderful memories we have. We are fortunate to have had you in our lives. You are finally in heaven with the love of your life. Sending hugs to the ones you leave behind.
    Love,
    Dolores & Ed and Family

  • I am so very sorry for the loss of uncle Neb. He was one of a kind and one of the happiest people I’ve known throughout my life. He made me smile, as well as everyone else with his quick wit and his charm. I have many memories of him from when I was a child at the shore and up the mountains that are etched in my memories which I will hold close to me forever.
He’s resting peacefully now with Aunt Char .
Sending love hugs and prayers to you all 💙
