Edward J. Dailey, Sr.
Mr. Edward J. Dailey, Sr., age 78, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Dailey was born in Wilmington on December 17, 1932, son of the late Edward J. Dailey and Dorothy Keehan Dailey. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. In civilian life, he made his career with the DuPont Company, retiring as a chemical operator at the former pigments branch in Newport.
An avid and knowledgeable outdoorsman, Mr. Dailey was a skilled hunter and particularly relished the challenges of deer, duck, goose, and pheasant hunting. He was a longtime member of Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association. He also greatly enjoyed freshwater fishing.
Mr. Dailey was a devoted family man who dedicated to his life to providing for his beloved wife and children. A caring husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he will sadly missed by the many people who loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith A. Pasquarella Dailey; daughter, Donna M. Simpson (Charles) of Lewes; son, Edward J. Dailey, Jr. (Tatyana) of Avondale, PA; brother, John Dailey (Anne) of Wilmington; sister, Barbara Andrews of New Port Richey, FL; grandchildren, Emily, Edward III, Colleen, Krista, Josh, and Alaina; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia VanSant.
A funeral service will be held at 5 pm on Thursday, July 7th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 4 pm. A committal service will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 8th, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
