Eleanor C. Golladay

Mrs. Eleanor Colabrese Golladay, age 88, of Newark, DE, formerly of Thomas, WV, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Golladay was born in Douglas, WV, on June 2, 1924, daughter of the late Frank Colabrese and Antoinetta Sciullo Colabrese. A 1941 graduate of Thomas High School, she attended Potomac State College until 1943 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in home economics from West Virginia University in 1945. She worked as a teacher for several years in Paw Paw before leaving the academic community to raise her young family. After moving to Delaware, where her husband had accepted a management position at Avon’s Newark plant, Mrs. Golladay became an active member of St. John’s-Holy Angels parish.
Among her many creative hobbies, Mrs. Golladay excelled in all types of crafts, painting, and sewing. She was an especially talented cook and delighted in making wonderful, rich desserts for family and friends to enjoy. Most of all, she delighted in her role as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; her happiest times were spent in the company of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, William H. Golladay, and by siblings, John T. Colabrese, G.J. “Bill” Colabrese, Alfonzo Colabrese, Elviera Maphis, Gloria Vandendriessche, and Lucy B. Colabrese. She is survived by her son, William H. Golladay II and wife Paula of Newark, DE; daughter, Sara Jean Golladay of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Golladay and Zachary Alan Golladay; and sisters, Yolanda Sims and Barbara Colabrese, both of Charles Town, WV.
Family members extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for their many kindnesses to Mrs. Golladay during her illness.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Hinkle Funeral Home, 567 Thomas Avenue, Davis, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Friday, July 6, 2012, at St. Thomas Aquinas R.C. Church, Brown and Third Streets, Thomas, WV. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Thomas, WV.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Golladay may be made to Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.
