Elizabeth Ann Keffala

July 2, 1931 - April 17, 2021

Elizabeth Ann Keffala, age 89, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on July 2, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Clement and Mary (Leary) Sprogell. In Elizabeth’s earlier years, she worked for the State of Delaware, taught English and math at Holy Spirit School and was a secretary for the Diocese of Wilmington. Later, she waitressed at many local restaurants. Of all Elizabeth’s passions, she loved being a Mom and Mum-Mum. 

Devoted to her faith, she was a member of Holy Spirit, where she was active for many years. Elizabeth was an avid Phillies and Flyers fan and looked forward to cheering on both teams each season. A patriotic individual, Elizabeth always wore red, white and blue pins and was proud to fly her flag. When Greg was growing up, she was the neighborhood mom that all the children came to.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary O’Donnell, Clem Sprogell and Rita Cernos. She is survived by her son, Gregory Keffala (Kristen); grandchildren, Lia, Jacob and Matthew Keffala; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE. Inurnment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. Face masks will be required for all in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elizabeth’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Autism Delaware, 924 Old Harmony Rd., Suite 201, Newark, DE  19713.
