Elva Isabelle Nickle
February 26, 1951 - January 24, 2018
Elva I. Nickle, age 66, of New Castle, DE passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018.
Born on February 26, 1951, in Wilmington, she was a daughter of the late J. Harry and Elva Elizabeth (Megee) Nickle. She was raised in Delaware City and graduated from Tower Hill High School in1969, Drew University in Madison, NJ in 1973 and completed her Master’s Degree in Psychology in 1975 from Fairleigh Dickinson University also in Madison, NJ.
Elva resided in central New Jersey where she worked as a clinical psychologist for the Piscataway Township Police Department’s Juvenile Section and for the Middlesex County Department of Adult Corrections, returning to her native Delaware after 24 years of service. She was devoted to helping troubled teens become responsible adults.
Her proudest role was being a mother to her two children, Amy and Lee. She also had a special place in her heart for the The Lakota Sioux Native Americans on the South Dakota Pine Ridge Reservation. If Elva was seen knitting, the item was usually for the residents of the reservation. She encouraged others to seek contentment in their lives, as happiness and sadness will cycle throughout the years, but if one is content, happiness can be fully embraced and sadness or disappointment can be experienced with strength. Elva’s final request was for those who knew her to remember the humorous times they shared with her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy E. Rominger and brother, John H. Nickle, Jr. She is survived by her son, Lee D. (Katie A.) of New York; siblings, Henry E. Nickle (Anne J.) and Elizabeth N. Saunders (W. Daniel); and nieces and nephews, Elizabeth A. Nickle, Scott C. Nickle, Janet E. Saunders and D. Curtis Saunders.
A memorial service will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, Elva’s family requests that donations can be made to Pine Ridge Reservation Donation Drives:

I have the fondest memories growing up with my Aunt Elva. The most memorable time was our cross country trip. We shared lots of laughs. She was one of a kind! My deepest condolences.

Elva was the best mother and a wonderful Aunt to my children . I will miss her so much- but have such warm memories and a few good giggles to remember her by.

I am sorry to hear of the death of another of the Nickle family. While I knew Elva the least of “all” of you, I see by the comments in her obituary, she was in fact, always in service to others…a true Nickle family trait. R.I.P. Ethel-Anne Webb
