Eugene M. Kontul

Eugene M. Kontul, age 92, of Bear, DE, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018.

Born in Phoenixville, PA, he was a son of the late Michael and Susan (Kovach) Kontul. Eugene proudly served in the U.S. Navy from July 1943 until March 1946 during WWII. He then served in the U.S. Coast Guard from June 1949 until June 1968 and retired as the Chief Boatswain Mate. After serving his country, Eugene dedicated his career as a supervisor with DuPont.

He was a Mason at the Jefferson Lodge #15 since March 1957 and 32º Mason at Delaware Consistory of Scottish Rites since April 1947. Eugene was a member of the Indian River Coast Guard and the Delaware Seashore Preservation Foundation, serving his duty from 1949 until 1951 and again from 1954 through 1957.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera M. Kontul and brothers, George Kontul and Bobby Kontul. He is survived by his son, David Kontul; daughters, Sharon Woudstra and Cheryl Kontul; grandchildren, Shannon and Kyle Woudstra; and great grandson, Colt Woudstra.

A committal service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
