Everen William Canter

Mr. Everen William Canter, age 81, a 60-year resident of New Castle, DE, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Christiana Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Bristol, VA, on July 23, 1930, Mr. Canter was the son of the late James Comas Canter and Lena Viola Taylor. He proudly served his country as a corporal in the US Army during the Korean War in Panama and was honorably discharged in September 1952 after a dedicated military career of three years, four months, and twenty-four days.
In civilian life, Mr. Canter was employed with Phoenix Steel in Claymont, where he retired as a foreman after thirty years of service. He later accepted a position as a professional truck driver for Tecot Electric, retiring from that employment after twelve years.
Mr. Canter was a devout Christian throughout his life and reverently studied the Bible each day. He also brought the inspirational message of the Gospel to others as a Sunday school teacher and as a faithful, active member of Ministries for Christ in Newark.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Betty Jones Canter; sons, James William Canter of Clearwater, FL, and Ronald Lee Canter of New Castle; daughters, Kathy Sharon Dykes of Laurel, Teresa Lynn Wylie of Newark, and Melinda Lena Baluk of Newark; brother, Gene Canter of Colonial Heights, VA; and grandchildren, John Michael Kuzminsky, Steven Buchman, Anastasia Baluk, and Sophia Baluk.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Earline Rackley, and his twin brother, William Earl “Toss” Canter.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, July 12th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
