Florence Dederick Pyle

Mrs. Florence Dederick Pyle, known fondly as “Floss,” age 88, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
A native Delawarean, Floss was born in Wilmington on January 17, 1925, daughter of the late Howard Wood and Florence Long Wood. She made her career as a professional insurance agent, specializing in property and casualty at the former Ralston Insurance Agency, where she retired. In her leisure hours, Floss greatly enjoyed traveling, bowling, solving challenging crossword puzzles and playing cards with friends.
One of her proudest achievements was supporting the war effort as an expert plane spotter during World War II.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John F. Dederick, and goddaughter, Darline Kane. She is survived by her husband of 8 1/2 years, George W. Pyle, and stepchildren, George E. Pyle (Betsy) and Nancy A. Duffin (Jarvis) and their families. Floss had no children of her own, but she loved her godchildren and their families dearly, Wayne Jones, Jr. (Cheryl), Florence Smith (William), and David Jones (Michele). She is also survived by her longtime and dear friend, Carol Schofield.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
