Florence M. Drummond - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Florence M. Drummond

Born: 5/28/1918
Died: 8/16/2013

Florence M. Drummond, age 95, of New Castle, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 16, 2013.
A native Delawarean, Florence was born in Wilmington on May 28, 1918, daughter of the late Anthony Petrucci and Jenney Vellico Petrucci. She was a talented homemaker throughout her life and had also been employed with the former Ogden Food Company until her retirement in 1980. Earlier, she had worked for the former Wilmington Hosiery Mill.
Active in the fire service community, Florence was a Lifetime Charter Member of the Minquadale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, which she joined in 1951. She greatly enjoyed volunteering for many fire company projects and events. Other favorite activities included baking cookies, making her fantastic potato salad, and being the greatest Phillies fan ever (win or lose)!
More than anything else, Florence delighted in spending time with her beloved family, especially her precious great grandchildren. Whether she was the honored guest at one of her festive birthday parties or she was going out to dinner (as she looked forward to doing each Sunday), she was always at her happiest when in the company of her devoted family. Her loving nature and unlimited gift for compassion will never be forgotten.
She is survived by daughters, Lena Mae Damiano of New Castle and Elizabeth Ann Pierce (Edward) of Newport; sisters, Mildred Sayers of Newark and Gloria Davis of Sumpter, SC; grandsons, Robert Damiano (Kay), Joseph Damiano, Jr. (Debbie), and Edward Pierce, Jr. (Joanna); and great grandchildren, Dustin, Kyle, Sarah, Kayla, Owen, Lauren, and Sophie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Joseph Damiano, grandson, James Anthony Damiano, and siblings, Joseph, Christian, and David Petrucci, Elizabeth Logue, and Esther DeMoss.
The family extends special thanks to the nurses and staff of Heartland Hospice for their many kindnesses and to good friend, neighbor, and nurse Jocelyn Ayaya who provided wonderful care to Florence each day.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 21st, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720; or to Heartland Hospice, 256 Chapman Rd., Ste. 102, Newark, DE 19702.
