Forrest Allan Boettcher, Sr., age 83, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 7, 1938, he was a son of the late Frank and Josephine (Krutelewski) Boettcher. Forrest graduated from Elkton High School in 1958 and from the U.S. War College in 1991. He was a member of the Delaware Army National Guard, where he attended flight school and served as a helicopter pilot. He was also deployed to Korea, Egypt and Somalia. Forrest made his career as a pipefitter for the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 74 Union, and was a member Armstrong Masonic Lodge No. 76 in Newport, where he served as Master in 2009.

In addition to his parents, Forrest was preceded in death by his brother, Clark Boettcher. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Virginia A. (Detwiler) Boettcher; children, Forrest A. Boettcher, Jr. and Debbie Benitez; grandchildren, Joseph Boettcher, Jason Benitez, and Michael Benitez; four great grandchildren; as well as brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dianna Detwiler.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware. Interment will be held privately.

  • Dear Ginnie, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. We will always remember Forrest and his stories.
    The little trip we took to St Kitts, March, 2010, with you & Forrest was one of our best vacations.
    Forrest will be missed dearly. God Bless.

  • Sadly another fellow warrior moves on…my thoughts and prayers are with you Virginia. Forrest will be missed at the at the UD games in the fall. I looked forward always to seeing you both there. Forrest was a mentor and supporter of my career in the Guard. He will not be forgotten.
