Frederick H. “Fred” Sanford

Frederick H. “Fred” Sanford, age 90, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
Born in Baltimore, MD, on January 29, 1929, he was the son of the late James Albert and Ellen M. (Schilling) Sanford. Fred was the proud owner of Fred Sanford Tile and Carpet, retiring in 1991 after 25 years of service. He also worked for R.C. Peoples and Pala Brothers.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his step-father, Angelo Visone; and nephew, Charles Gears. He is survived by his loving wife, Gwendolyn L. (Gears) Sanford; children, James A. Sanford (Charlene) of Frankford, DE and Cynthia A. Sanford of Wilmington; step-son, Timothy F. Lee (Jacqueline) of Wilmington; brother-in-law, Lewis B. Gears (JoAnn) of Bedias, TX; grandchildren, Nina L. Marr (James) and Rhiannon M. Boughman (Brian); great grandchildren, Mikaela, Grayson, Arabella and Sharmaine; and nieces and nephew, Michael, Karen, Lisa, Lee Ann (Gears) York and Denise (Gears) Permenter.
A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Fred’s memory to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
