Frederick Witt

Born: 12/24/1936
Died: 1/1/2012

Mr. Frederick Witt, age 75, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Warwick, MD, on Christmas Eve 1936, Mr. Witt was the son of the late Harry Witt and Grace Mae Osborne Witt. He proudly served his country in the US Army Reserves, the US Army, and, later, the National Guard. In civilian life, he made his career as a forklift operator with Printpack, where he retired after 51 years of service.
Active in his community, Mr. Witt was a popular member of the St. Anthony’s Club, the Terrace Athletic Club, and the Rod and Gun Club; he also had many friends at the grocery store where he enjoyed shopping each day. He was an avid sports fan throughout his life and each season looked forward to watching his favorite teams: the Eagles, the Phillies, and the William Penn High School football squad. He greatly enjoyed fishing and among his favorite trips was fishing for tuna on head boats. In earlier years, he also enjoyed roller skating.
Most of all, Mr. Witt will be remembered as a devoted family man who delighted in spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. In recent years, many of his happiest hours were spent cheering for his grandchildren during their sporting events.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Charlotte N. McLaughlin Witt; children, Sandra Elliott (Robert), Harry Witt (Rosemarie), Frederick Witt, Sr. (Krissann), Noreen Witt, and Kimberly Stevens (Randy); sister, Ruth Mercer; brother, Eddie Witt (Cathy); granddaughters, Danielle Witt and Sydney Stevens; grandsons, Chris, Travis, Jerry, Shane, Freddy and Brandon Witt, and Corby Burton; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family extends special thanks to Mr. Witt’s niece Charlotte Hamilton for her dedicated and loving care during his time of illness; to “his girls” at the St. Anthony’s Club: Kim, Nicole, and Annette; and to Nurse B from Delaware Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, January 9, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
