Gary L. “Big Gary” Dickens, Sr., age 61, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Born in New Castle, DE, on August 5, 1963, he was a son of the late Gary Dickens and Bessie Sexton. Gary loved to watch sports, especially his beloved Baltimore Ravens. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. Gary will always be remembered for being full of life. If you were his friend, you were a friend for life.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his stepdaughters, Shannon Smallwood and Kerrie Smallwood; and siblings, Rebecca Tinnerello and Lonnie Dickens. He is survived by his son, Gary L. Dickens, Jr.; longtime companion, Deborah Smallwood; stepchildren, Eve Smallwood and Russell Branum; siblings, Sheila Lyons and Tammy Pack; and step-grandchild, Jazelle Rice.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 3 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 3 pm. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.

You were more than just a friend you were like family you will be missed by us and your crazy jokes you used to tell us all the time but thank you for being a very good friend anyone could have Bird Dog and I have so many memories of all of us it was never a dull moment with you always have something funny to say you always put a smile on everyone’s face and if we were mad or upset you would make a joke so we can smile… Still can’t believe you are gone but you will never ever be forgotten your friend forever bird dog and Patty Susan Brandon and Alex we all love you so we meet again on the other side….R.I.P GARY
