Gary L. “Big Gary” Dickens, Sr., age 61, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

Born in New Castle, DE, on August 5, 1963, he was a son of the late Gary Dickens and Bessie Sexton. Gary loved to watch sports, especially his beloved Baltimore Ravens. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. Gary will always be remembered for being full of life. If you were his friend, you were a friend for life.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his stepdaughters, Shannon Smallwood and Kerrie Smallwood; and siblings, Rebecca Tinnerello and Lonnie Dickens. He is survived by his son, Gary L. Dickens, Jr.; longtime companion, Deborah Smallwood; stepchildren, Eve Smallwood and Russell Branum; siblings, Sheila Lyons and Tammy Pack; and step-grandchild, Jazelle Rice.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 pm until 3 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 3 pm. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
