George W. DiGuardi
Mr. George W. DiGuardi (Granbow), age 76, of Millsboro, DE, formerly of Ogletown, died on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Born in Reading, PA, on November 7, 1934, Mr. DiGuardi was the son of the late Frank DiGuardi and Dorothy Stamm DiGuardi. As a young man, he chose military service for his career and proudly enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He would go on to serve during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, earning the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in defense of his country.
Following his retirement from the Marine Corps as a master sergeant, he accepted a position with J.C. Penney at Prices Corner, where he worked for 23 years until his retirement as the companys warehouse manager.
Mr. DiGuardi remained active in military organizations throughout his life and was a member of American Legion Oak Orchard-Riverdale Post 28 in Millsboro and VFW Mason-Dixon Post 7234 in Ocean View.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Marie T. St. Pierre DiGuardi; children, Rhonda Walker of Newark, Gary DiGuardi and wife, Donna DiGuardi, of Bridgeville, and Mark DiGuardi of Smyrna; aunt, Aggie Stamm of Reading, PA; grandchildren, Michael Schrader (Becky), Theresa Earl (Shawn), Gary DiGuardi II (Millie), Kristen DiGuardi, Matthew DiGuardi, Johnathan DiGuardi, and Ryan Walker; 10 great grandchildren; many cousins and friends; and his best friend of 64 years, Gary McCord (Linda).
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, January 7th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 11:30 am. Entombment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
