Gerald A. “Jerry” Thompson

Gerald A. “Jerry” Thompson, age 85, of Lewes, DE, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 21, 2021.

Born in Ludlow, MA on February 21, 1936, he was the son of the late Allan F. and Helen S. (Prokop) Thompson. Jerry made his living as a groundskeeper for Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, DE. As a young man, Jerry played the saxophone in a band in clubs around Wilmington and continued to play occasionally. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, golfing, fishing, crabbing, jazz music, and spending winters in Florida. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Thompson, Marion Petrillo, and Maureen Jewell. He is survived by his children, Susan M. Thompson of Earleville, MD, Gerald A. Thompson, Jr. of Downingtown, PA, and Richard A. Thompson (Susan) of Middletown; step children, Kim Bazzoli of Florida and Jim Crawford of Delaware; grandchildren, Michael, Betsy, Kyle, Franz, Savannah, Rickey, James, and Carly; step grandchildren, Ryan and Mary Beth; his sister, Sr. Christa Marie Thompson, OSF; along with his long-time companion, Lauren Lillqust and her family.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014 or Chesapeake Bay Foundation “Save the Bay”, Philip Merrill Environmental Center, 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403.

  • Jerry you are missed. We had fun at the Ren fairs and the crab house in FL. Been years ago Lauren introduced us and we all had grand times. RIP sir.
