Gerald E. DuBois
Mr. Gerald E. DuBois, age 91, of Townsend, DE, formerly of Briarcliff Drive in New Castle, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011.
Born in Pottstown, PA, on June 15, 1920, Mr. DuBois proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a member of the famed parachute infantry. He later re-enlisted in the newly-formed US Air Force, serving from 1948 to 1952 as a staff sergeant and senior flight mechanic.
In civilian life, Mr. DuBois made his career as a pilot for Transamerica Airlines, retiring after 27 years. He took great pleasure in flying and for many years owned and operated his own small plane.
A devout Christian and longtime member of Fairwinds Baptist Church, he served faithfully each Sunday with his wife in the Bus Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Margaret L. Coker DuBois, his mother, Katherine DuBois, his aunt and uncle who raised him, Lillian and Charles Linderman, his son, Gary C. DuBois, his son-in-law, Fred Brant, and grandson, Andrew DuBois. He is survived by his children, Patricia D. Brant of Clayton, Margaret E. Robinson of Lenoir City, TN, William G. DuBois and wife, Barbara, of Townsend, and Robert G. DuBois and wife, Angelina, of Townsend; 7 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Fairwinds Baptist Church, 801 Seymour Road, Bear, 19701, where visitation will begin at 6 pm. A committal service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. DuBois may be made to Fairwinds Baptist Church at the address above.
