Gordon H. (Bill) Trainer
Mr. Gordon H. Trainer, known fondly as “Bill,” age 83, of Bear, DE, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
Born in Parkersburg, WV, on February 21, 1929, Mr. Trainer was the son of the late Gordon Reed Trainer and Mollie Naomi Moreland Trainer. He was a graduate of Nitro (WV) High School and would go on to serve his country proudly as a sergeant in US Air Force at the close of World War II from 1946 to 1949. Following his honorable discharge from military service, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Charleston (WV).
Mr. Trainer began his career as a draftsman with the Monsanto Corporation in West Virginia. He later accepted a position with the DuPont Company, where he would work for 33 years before retiring from the Louviers site in Newark, DE, as the lead designer in the engineering and design department.
An avid outdoorsman throughout his life, Mr. Trainer greatly enjoyed fishing, camping, and trips to the beach with his family. He also excelled in swimming, tennis, and bowling. He particularly looked forward to cheering each season for his favorite team, the Phillies.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Patsy Lee Thomas Trainer; daughters, Karen E. Trainer of Bear, DE, and Robin R. August-Pratola (Pat) of Clayton, DE; sister, Carole Anne Jackson of Mooreville, NC; brother-in-law, Gene Thomas of Nitro, WV; and many extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gordon H. Trainer, Jr., and a sister, Betty Gilbert.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Monday, June 11, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 9 am. Interment with military honors will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
