Hazel L. Rein - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Hazel L. Rein

October 27, 1929 - October 27, 2021

Hazel L. Rein, age 92, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.

Born in Boothwyn, PA on October 27, 1929, she was a daughter of the late James Collins O’Neill and Huldah Lee (Short) O’Neill. Hazel worked as a school bus driver for Christina School District for many years, until her retirement. She was a talented organ and piano player. Hazel played the organ for Elkton Skating Rink in the 80’s, the piano and organ for Fairwinds Baptist Church in Bear, and then later at Grace Chapel Church in Warwick, MD where she was a current member. Musical all of her life, Hazel loved to sing and dance- especially the jitterbug! She was a meticulous gardener who enjoyed making sure her yard was well manicured by her husband! Hazel was a wonderful cook, who loved making meals for her family. More than anything, she cherished her late husband Bob, her children, Robert, Carol, Dianne and Richard, and loved her late brothers and sisters. Hazel had a special bond with her nieces and nephews, some of which called her Aunt Obie. She loved her grandchildren and adored her great grandchildren, with whom she shared special bond. Hazel was known for being set in her ways but in reality,  she had the biggest heart for all who loved her.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Camp “Bob” Rein; son, Richard C. Rein; and daughters-in-law, Sue C. Rein and Victoria Rein. She is survived by her children Carol L. Rein, Robert C. Rein, and Dianne L. Rein, all of Newark; grandchildren, Erin L. Rein, Robert C. Rein, Jr. (Jessica), Nicole M. Norman, and John A. Rein, Sr. (Amanda); great-grandchildren, John L. J. Rein, Jr., Lilyana Rein, Brooke Rein, Chase Rein, Ryland Rein, Noah Rein, Jackson Norman, and Ava Norman; many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and dear friends; and her beloved dog, Minnie.

A committal service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Masks are required for all in attendance, regardless of vaccination status.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Hazel’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
