Ida May Black

June 9, 1941 - December 11, 2020

Ida May Black, age 79, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020.

Born on June 9, 1941 in Vineland, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Ida (Paternoster) Creelman. Ida May enjoyed the sunshine throughout the summer, as well as growing a plethora of flowers and many vegetables in her garden. Her lunchtime ritual consisted of having a peanut butter sandwich while watching the Price Is Right. Ida May would always cheer on Bill Elliott or Chase Elliott in every NASCAR race. More than anything, she cherished time spent with her relatives in New Jersey. “MayMay” would always tell her family, “I love you more!” She will always be remembered by her strong will, kindness, care, and dedication to her family.

In addition to her parents, Ida May is preceded in death by her husband, Heber J. Black and sister, Barbara Curlett. She is survived by her children, June Anderson (Steven) of Odessa, Donald Black of Cosby, TN, and Teresa Hirst (Ray Hill) of Bear; siblings, Albert Creelman (Margaret) of Vineland, NJ and Rose Gabriele (Lou) of Vineland, NJ; sister-in-law, Ruby Husta of Milmay, NJ; brother-in-law, Jack Curlett (Nancy) of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren, Daniel Hirst of South Haven, MS and Erin Hirst of Bear; and many other family members Ida May held near and dear to her heart.

All services will be private.

The family of Ida May would like to express their appreciation to M.O.H.C (Helen Graham Center) and the Christiana Hospital’s Seasons Hospice for their exceptional care.
