James B. Dawson III
Mr. James B. Dawson III, age 62, of New Castle, DE, died on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at his home.
Born in Bridgeton, NJ, on May 13, 1948, Mr. Dawson was the son of the late James B. Dawson, Jr. and Martha E. Buckson Dawson. As a young man, he received his degree from the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, CT, and greatly enjoyed working for a time as a professional chef. Though proud of his creative work in cooking and restaurant management, Mr. Dawson later changed his career to the automotive field and would go on to a long career in the parts department of the Bayshore Ford dealership. He retired in 2002.
In his leisure hours, Mr. Dawson was both a talented woodworker and a gifted gardener, planting a beautiful flower and vegetable garden each year. He was interested in automobiles throughout his life and particularly cherished his Harley Davidson edition Ford F-150 truck. He also looked forward to attending local antique cars shows.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carla J. Ham; daughter, Ruth A. Keller (Kevin) of Vineland, NJ; sister, Sally McCann (Edward) of Kerns, WV; father- and mother-in-law, Carl N. and Berdia L. Ham of New Castle, DE; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rick L. Ham (Johann) of Middletown, DE; Karen E. Nunez (Armando) of New Castle, DE; John N. Ham (Christina) of New Castle, DE; and Christina L. Ham (Samuel Ames) of Wilmington, DE; seven nephews and a niece. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Monday, August 2, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 9 am. Interment will follow in Shiloh Seventh Day Baptist Church Cemetery, Shiloh, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Dawson may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
