Janet C. Maslanka

July 22, 1940 - January 16, 2023

Janet C. Maslanka, age 82, of Landenberg, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Born in Butler, PA, on July 22, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Margaret (Deppner) Cross. Growing up in the Wilmington area, Janet was a member of the first graduating class of Padua Academy (1958) and later graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in chemistry. She first worked as a chemist for Hercules Inc. (where she met her husband, Bill) and then later for the DuPont Co. Stine-Haskell Laboratory until her retirement.

Janet spent summers in Lewes, DE as a child and developed a life-long love for the beach there. One of her favorite traditions was the week spent with her husband, children and grandchildren in Lewes each summer. She was an excellent cook and, especially around the holidays, could often be found in her kitchen baking cookies or cooking a delicious meal.

Janet is survived by her husband, William W. Maslanka; children, Frank Maslanka (Jennifer), and Michael Maslanka (Adrienne Crosier); brother, Richard Cross; and grandchildren, Drew, Meghan, and Tyler.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet’s memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or online by clicking here.

  • Working with Janet at Stine-Haskell was a pleasure. She was a beacon of dedication to high-quality work which positively impacted others. She was always a teacher, helping others understand the how’s and why’s of the work, and she cared greatly about the well-being of the people in her work group.
