Janice Powell, age 87, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at her home.

Born in Wilmington, DE on January 31, 1931, she was a daughter of the late John and Evelyn (King) Stoddard. Janice worked as a telephone operator and receptionist for Speakman Company in Wilmington and retired after many dedicated years.

A friend to the community, Janice was a life member of Minquadale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Asbury U.M. Church and a life member of Polish American VFW Post #3257. Janice loved her annual trips to Disney World. In her spare time, she enjoyed making dolls and crafts.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas and Robert Stoddard; and sisters, Audrey Kotowski, Edna Krause, Evelyn Broadwater and Marion Bush. She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Powell; step-son, Gary Powell (Mary); sister, Lois Prouse; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, in the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Janice’s memory to Minquadale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 647 Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.

    I need to get the photo of Janice in this video for the DE State Fire School Memorial Service in honor of our deceased members. It is the one of her holding a dozen of red roses it like the second photo in the video.

    I would appreciate someone getting me the photo of Janice for the Memorial service stateside in Dover.

    Questions please do not hesitate calling me. As you know her husband is in a nursing home so I cant get a hold of any of the family members that would have this great photo of her.
