Jessie H. Denyes
Jessie Helene Denyes, age 80, died peacefully in her own home on May 25, 2011.
Jessie was born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 8, 1931, daughter of Jesse and Irene Derx. She was a graduate of Philadelphia High School for Girls and Nursing School at the Womens Hospital of Philadelphia in 1951. Jessies nursing career spanned over 40 years and included spending time as an OR nurse, in private practice, substitute school nursing, and finally as an integral part of the Childrens School of Wilmington, where she was the school nurse and taught health education classes until her retirement in 1983.
Both Jessie and her husband John were actively involved in the Newark Little League, Girls Scouts of America, and the Newark Fife and Drum Corps, making many friends and wonderful memories. Jessie was a crafter, an avid reader, a history buff and naturalist, but her greatest love was her family and spending quiet time with her best friend and husband John.
She was predeceased by her husband and soul mate, John R. Denyes, and great grandson, Michael A. McCool. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey K. Denyes and Patricia Parker, and her daughters, Beverly J. McCool and husband Paul, and Lynn Denyes Landon and husband Ken; grandchildren, Kyle McCool and wife Jessica, Shawn and Chelsea McCool, Alexis Page and husband Kyle; and great grandchildren, Alyson Page and Eleanor McCool.
Mom believed in living simply, loving generously, caring deeply, speaking kindly, and leaving the rest to God. The world is a little less bright today without her, but her memory will burn brightly in the minds of all who had the honor of knowing her.
Services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Jessie, donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810; or to the Claymore Senior Center, 504 South Clayton St., Wilmington DE 19805.
