Jewell L. Stevens
June 23, 1925 - April 10, 2019
Jewell L. Stevens, age 93, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Hillsboro, AL on June 23, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Virginia (Gillespie) Lentz. Jewell worked for the Christiana Medical Center in food service for 18 years, retiring in 1989.
She took pride in her home and yard and enjoyed sitting on her front porch for hours, chatting with neighbors who came to visit. Her dog, Scooter was always by her side. Jewell loved her family and her fondest memories were made during gatherings. She had a knack for detail and enjoyed coloring books from front to back. Jewell was a member of the Howard J. Weston Senior Center in Manor Park.
She is survived by her children, Faye L. Stevens of New Castle, Rhonda S. Bellak of New Castle and James L. “Jimmy” Stevens (Jane) of Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Justin and Joshua Bellak, Jesse Stevens and Kelle Sowers; and 5 great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jewell’s memory to the American Red Cross, 100 West 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

I was so blessed to have my auntie Jewel in my life. She gave us all such great memories and treated us all with love and friendship. She helped mold me into the man that I am today, and treated me like I was one of her own children. Never a harsh word for anyone, and always had a big hug for everybody. I’m so sorry for your loss but happy that your mom is finally at rest. “Mrs. Stevens” was one very special lady, and growing up there was never a time when she didn’t welcome me into her home and her arms for hugs. So many fund memories over the years. The biggest one was falling half way down your steps inside the house in a Brand Spanking NEW pair of platform shoes. Scared her to death until we all realized I was just fine……then she and Rhonda and I sat and laughed and laughed. Thinking it made us late for whatever party we were heading too. Love to each of you as you adjust to “life after mom”.

Aunt Jewel l was my husband Rodney aunt but she treated me as if she was my aunt to she was always wonderful to me and I loved her very much is there ever was a true Southern lady j e w e l l was it so lucky to have had her in my life she was loved by all that knew her and she will always be in my heart.

Jewell was a dear friend to me and my family! She will be greatly missed! We have so many wonderful memories piled up over more than sixty years. She will be remembered as a lady of love to all who knew her. Her home was always open and we felt welcomed there and had many great times together. She has only said “so long”, not “goodbye” for we know that we will see her in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are now with her family as they grieve their great loss.
