Joan D. “Joanie” Haug

Joan D. “Joanie” Haug, age 82, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Born in Weatherly, PA, on November 23, 1939, she was a daughter Margeurite (Schanufer) and the late John Novak. Joanie was self-employed and the owner of Ms. Joan’s Daycare that she operated out of her residence for 41 years.

Extremely strong in her faith and community, she was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Joanie was a member of the Weston Senior Center and a member of the New Castle Moose Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, collecting Betty Boop and she absolutely loved playing bingo. Joanie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her father, Joanie was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Novak, brother-in-law, Floyd Seeney, and step-son, Jeffrey Haug. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, William F. “Bill” Haug; children, Carolyn Young, Diane Crespo (Luis), Robert Haug (Nyla), and David Haug; sister, Barbara Anne Seeney; grandchildren, Zachary, Kierstyn, Brian, Greg, Joshua, and Michael; and 6 great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 7:30 pm on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanie’s memory may be made to the Joan Haug Memorial Fund, c/o Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home at the address listed above.
