June 7, 1938 - January 4, 2022

Joan E. Rogers, 83, and long-time resident of Newark, Delaware, passed away after a long battle with a heart condition and other complications on Thursday, January 4, 2022 at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Norristown, PA, on June 7, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Jack R. and Elsa G. Freed. Joan married the late John L. Rogers on February 15, 1957. Joan was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on February 6, 1965 and dedicated the remaining 57 years of her life to helping others study the Bible. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing cards with her family when her health was better. But most of all, she enjoyed expressing her faith and sharing the good news of God’s Kingdom with others.

In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her older brother, William Freed. She is survived by her children, Brenda Hamilton (Carter), Mark Rogers (Sharon), and Wanda Rogers; sister, Brenda Gould; six grandchildren, Carter Hamilton Jr. (Sheac Yee Lim), Bradley Hamilton, Anthony Hamilton, Joshua Rogers, Jonathan Rogers (Holley), and Kimberly Burd (Justin); 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

The Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, January 15, 2022, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The service will be conducted using Zoom Conferencing Services, using the Iron Hill Congregation Sunday Meeting and Password.

Joan will be dearly missed by her family and a host of spiritual brothers and sisters who loved her deeply.
