Mrs. Joan Zimmerman, age 80, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013.
Born in Scranton, PA, on December 22, 1932, daughter of the late George Sampson and Laura Kohn Sampson, Mrs. Zimmerman was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. She made her career as an administrative professional and was employed for many years with the First Presbyterian Church of Newark. She later accepted a position with the Office of the Delaware State Insurance Commissioner, where she retired.
Mrs. Zimmerman was a longtime committee-woman for the Republican Party and an alternate delegate to the Presidential nominating convention of 1992. Her enthusiasms included politics, cooking, cultivating her garden, and the Phillies.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andrew Zimmerman. She is survived by her children, Bonnie Zimmerman, Andrew Zimmerman, Jr. and his wife Jo Ann, Laura Z. Orsic and her husband Darko, Andrea Kay, and Lee Zimmerman; brother, Paul Sampson; grandchildren, Amanda, Ivan, Maja, and Sophie; and cherished nieces and nephew, Charlene, Toni, and Sam.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 6, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, 292 W. Main Street, Newark. Interment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
